Thought that we would try the new menu selection and was not disappointed. Great atmosphere, without the Brighton Tax

Citizen Cafe is our Monday and Friday go to cafe stop. The owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming and were kind enough to sponsor us via a winter cycling jersey which we are very grateful for and wear proudly on those 2 days of the week. Great coffee, great food menu and great service. Highly recommended by our riding group.

Citizen cafe has always been one of my favourite cafe for their delicious coffee. But to be honest I haven’t really tasted their food before, so I decided today is the day. Their food menu takes the name of animals. Whilst I find it cute, it makes it quite difficult to order quickly because you have to read the description for each of the food so you know what food they have available. In the end I chose Snow Goose which is a 3 mushroom dish. Presentation looks nice and simple, however I found the dish overall is too dry. The truffle oil must have been absorbed by the mushrooms. Also the 2 poached eggs were almost overcooked, with only a very tiny bit of yolk still runny. So at the end of the day, the coffee is great as always but the food is average. I haven’t to give 4 stars overall.
